Basketball fans in Uganda and across the world paid tribute and dropped a tear as Kobe Bryant ended his illustrious 20-year career in the most Kobe Bryant way possible.
“Kobe Bryant’s farewell game was the most important event this year in my sporting perhaps. Let me tell you, I don’t buy jerseys but i only own an India cricket jersey and Kobe’s,” said senior sports commentator Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo.
“Kobe Bryant rips Utah Jazz for 60 points on his way out,” said new Power Basketball Club coach Brian Wathum.
“It’s difficult to think of basketball without Kobe Bryant ….I think the great one Roger Federer agrees!” said Uganda Lawn Tennis President Cedric Babu.
“I was very lucky to have interviewed Kobe at the London 2012 Olympics when Team USA won gold. Very humble and funny guy. Can’t believe this is the last time we’ll be seeing him in a Lakers shirt,” tweeted Kigali based Ugandan journalist Usher Komugisha.
Back to the court, taking 50 shots, Bryant was gunning all game long. Perhaps inspired by his pregame tribute video, Bryant was in attack mode right from the opening tip, finishing the game with a season-high 60 points. With this being his last game ever, Bryant literally left it all on the floor. The Lakers rally around their retiring star as they rally past the Utah Jazz 101-96.
