Must read

Legislators have this afternoon voted to suspend parliamentary business sine die, till the government explains the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of women in Wakiso and other areas of Uganda.

In the previous week, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga called the legislators from recess and tasked the executive including the Minister for Internal Affairs, to come back today with a detailed report pertaining the gruesome murders that have sent shock waves across the nation. However in today’s session, none of them showed up.

Due to their absence, Aruu South Member of Parliament Samuel Odonga Otto moved a motion to suspend house sittings till when the concerned authorities produce a detailed report about the mysterious killings.

“We return from holiday, the world wants to know the issues concerning the numerous murders of our sisters and mothers,” Odonga Otto said, said adding that the House cannot continue with business without government’s position on the matter.

On her part the Leader of Opposition (LoP0 Winnie Kizza said: “It is improper for the house to debate about a national issue when the concerned members are absent.”

Odonga Otto’s motion was overwhelmingly supported by MPs on either divide , prompting the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah to suspend house proceedings.

Over the past two months 20 women have been killed under mysterious circumstances in Entebbe and Nansana, in Wakiso district.
