Chief Opposition Whip and Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Semujju Naganda has called for explanations about hosting of Israel refugees without processes travel documents and falsification of refugee numbers Uganda.
In January international media published stories indicating that Israel signed a deal with Rwanda and Uganda allowing the departure of illegal migrants to both countries after recognizing that the Sudanese and Eritreans cannot be returned to their dangerous war homelands.
In a press briefing held at Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)
party headquarters Semujju said that government must explain weather they will allocate them to the already established refugee camps or they will be registered to become Ugandan citizens.
‘’The issue of refugees has turned out to be a project to some government officials making profits out of misery, falsification of refugee numbers is on rise in different camps, this is a Kifeesi government looking for survival’’.
Reacting to Semujju’s remarks, Deputy Director Uganda Media Centre, Col. Shaban Bantariza said there was no need to clarify on the allegation by Chief Opposition Whip since it is all about frustrating government under the ‘Tubalemese’ (fail them) campaign by the opposition.
“If he has no clarity, where does he get facts? It is all in the spirit of Tubalemese and I can’t elaborate more on those lies” Col. Bantariza told Eagle Online.
According to Semujju, every person who will accept to leave Israel will be given a free tick and US $3,000 after unspecified period of time to settle both in Uganda and Rwanda, ‘’ those without processed travel documents later escape to Europe through Libya as some of them dies on their way crossing red sea’’.
He further revealed that he met Knesset members led by Michael Rosenthal saying that they promised to sue Rwanda, Uganda and Israel over disrupting refugees’ rights. This month office of the prime minster department of refugees suspended two of workers.
He however implored Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and his two deputies Gen Moses Ali and Kirunda Kivejinja to retire and benefit from retirement scheme they offer Shs25, 000 saying they are part of the failed process on managing refugee crisis and supervision of government projects.
Last year Uganda emerged among the top refugee hosting communities with over 270,000 people from south Sudan, Burundi, Congo, Somalia and that led to the holding of UN summit in Uganda last year contributing millions towards the improving of refugees’ welfare.
