MP Paul Mwiru of Jinja East says, member of the group of legislators on treason trial has said his only crime was not revealing to the security operatives where was Bobi Wine.
Mwiru told the press that when they (arresters) reached him, they demanded from him to reveal where Bobi was hiding and before he could answer, they pounced on him.
“The whole process was a violation of human rights and had nothing to do with Arua. I think it was Museveni using the machinery to break our spirit,” said Mwiru.
Mwiru and others including Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine [Kyadondo East], Gerald Karuhanga [Ntungamo municipality], Kassiano Wadri [Arua municipality], Francis Zaake [Mityana municipality] and former MP Mike Mabikke were Monday given bail by Gulu High Court.
He said that after several minutes of torture without revealing Bobi’s hotel room, he was taken to a detention centre.
He refuted state claims that they were arrested for throwing stones at convoy of the president in which fracas the state says rare screen of the presidential car was smashed.
“That was a lie” he said adding that “none of us was arrested at the scene of crime. They came and broke into our hotel rooms. We were at the police station when they almost beat Hon. Zaake to death.”
The ruling NRM party MP Barnabas Tinkasiimire said he was proud to associate with Bobi Wine not Jajja Museveni.
