The political temperature in the country is charged. No one wants to take chances with votes. President Yoweri Museveni has called the ‘rebel’ MPs for ‘reconciliation’ talks. The Democratic Party (DP) is also in tow, and today urged its members that had joined pressure group Suubi to get back and actively participate in the party’s activities.
Mr. Kenneth Kakande, the DP National Spokesperson revealed that some of the party members have already been ‘forgiven’ and some have gone on to win party grassroots election.
He added that reconciliation was needed to make the party stronger.
“All Suubi members were forgiven and they can come back to the party, Kakande said and cited MPs Mathias Mpuuga, Betty Nambooze and Dr Lulume Bayiga as some of those ‘rehabilitated’ and have gone on to win party flag bearer grassroots elections.
The DP spokesperson disclosed that the party was in the process of electing new leaders and that various party members have picked the nomination papers.
“Every party member with qualifications to stand should come and participate.” Kakande said and advised those interested in party positions to pick nomination forms from the party headquarters by tomorrow, the deadline. The party leaders will be elected at a Delegates’ Conference which will be held on 23 July at Katoomi Resort, Wakiso district.
