Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer in the 2016 presidential race, Col Dr Kizza Besigye has weighed in on the arrest of Gen David Sejusa and accused government of witch-hunting the General because of his resilience and verve to say the truth.
Colonel Besigye, who fought alongside Gen Sejusa in the bush war that brought the current National Resistance Movement (NRM) regime to power in 1986, said his senior colleague is a ‘martyr’ and is being battered like he was in 1999 because of telling the truth.
“You know Mr. Museveni threatens whoever tells him the truth. Gen Sejusa is being mistreated just as they did to me in 1999 when I wrote a 14-page dossier to him outlining issues that were genuine,” Dr Besigye said on arrival in Mwizi, on the outskirts of Mbarara, where he campaigned this morning.
Both Besigye and Sejusa have a long history of friendship dating back to their days at Makerere University, and the two later served in the army and government in different portfolios before falling out with government.
According to Dr Besigye, it is his best man Gen Sejusa who persuaded him to join the 2016 presidential race after he had indicated he wasn’t running again for the fourth time against Mr Museveni.
