Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) youths have launched ‘Blue Friday’ as part of their non-violent protests against the just-concluded elections, which they claim were neither free nor fair and widely rigged. Addressing the press this morning during the launch of the Blue Friday campaign, at the party offices on Katonga Road in Kampala, the FDC youths said that this was a move to ‘reclaim the peoples’ victory and reinstate Dr Kizza Besigye as the elected President of Uganda’.

“Blue Friday is a movement composed of Ugandans who recognize Dr Besigye as the president-elect; any other person who claims the presidency by proclamation or declaration is an impostor,” said Kahemba Babi, one of the party youths.

The youths also urged Ugandans to wear the FDC party colours (blue) in solidarity with Dr Kizza Besigye, and reiterated their party flag bearer’s earlier demand for an international audit of the election results and for the international community not to recognize Mr Museveni as president.

“We believe we can reclaim our victory without using force or violence,” Kahemba said before party members adding that more non-violent means will be announced in the future.

Meanwhile, in a related development, last week, the FDC party launched another non-violent approach towards protest, announcing the ‘Free my vote campaign’ whose activities include wearing black ribbons; praying every Tuesday and staying at home every Thursday in solidarity with former party presidential candidate Dr Besigye, who is currently under house arrest in his Kasangati home.
