Abel Dhaira’s body to be taken to Mulago Hospital

A minute’s silence was observed before the game between Uganda and Burkina Faso yesterday at Namboole in memory of fallen goalie Abel Dhaira before the Cranes stumbled.

Focus now turns to the burial arrangements and according to a family source, President Museveni reportedly gave out directives to the Ambassador of Uganda to Denmark H.E Zake Kibedi do the Icelandic paperwork very fast in order to see that Dhaira’s body before the end of this week.

Abel, son of ex-Cranes goalkeeper Bright Dhaira died on Sunday after losing his battle to abdominal cancer in Iceland at the age of 28.

His body will be taken to Mulago Hospital straight from Entebbe International Airport on arrival for a local autopsy   before being taken to All Saints Church, Nakasero for a mass then public viewing at Nakivubo or Namboole Stadium before heading to Jinja in Walukuba Block 11 where the vigils are being held.

He will be laid to rest in Buyaga Village; Kigandaro Town Council Nondwe in Mayuge District.

Dhaira started his career at Walukuba Football Club in Jinja. From Walukuba he moved to Express, then URA, AS Vita (DRC), ÍBV (Iceland), Simba SC (Tanzania) and back to ÍBV. He last appeared for the Cranes in 2013, four years after his debut.
