The Chief Justice, His Lordship Bart Magunda Katureebe has already held a mock swearing-in ceremony for the president-elect H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, a judiciary spokesperson has revealed.
This will be Justice Bart Katureebe’s first time to swear in a president and judiciary’s senior communications officer Solomon Muyita confirms that everything that is needed is in place.
Despite main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) calling for country wide protests to disrupt the Thursday presidential inauguration, Muyita insists as the judiciary, they are all set for the historic event.
“Everything is set, the ceremonial robes that the Chief Justice will don at the May 12th event reached the country last week and he has already tried them on to see if they fit,” Muyita reveals.
The CJ has been provided with two police patrols vehicles for his security to the ceremony.
“Uganda Police has provided two escort cars to provide security for the CJ when he heads to Kololo ceremonial grounds. As matter of fact he (Katureebe) has already met with the president-elect to take him through the processs before performing the ceremony,” he added.
President Museveni will take two oaths; the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of President to the President Elect.
Government has invited and expects a number of Heads of State including those from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kingdom of Lesotho, South Sudan, Tanzania, Mali, Togo, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Swaziland, China, Nigeria, and Russian Federation.
Procedure of swearing-in
The swearing in ceremony will begin by the Chairman Electoral Commission, Dr. Eng. Badru Kigguundu inviting and introducing to the public the President Elect through reading a proclamation. He will then invite the Chief Justice, His Lordship Bart Magunda Katureebe to administer the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of President to the President Elect.
President Elect will be guided into taking and signing the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of President by the Chief Registrar. Thereafter, the Chief Justice will present to the President the instruments of power which include; the Constitution, the National Flag, the Presidential Standard flag, the National Anthem, the National Court of Arms and the Seal.
Thereafter the President will take the Presidential Salute, inspect a Guard of honor before introducing the visiting Heads of State and addressing the public.
Thereafter HE the President will host the visiting delegations for State luncheon at the Commonwealth Speak Resort, Munyonyo. Members of the Public and all invited guests will be served drinks and lunch.
