SWEARING IN: The new Kenya Army Commander Lt Gen Robert Kibochi takes the Oath of Office.

The newly appointed Kenya Army Commander, Lietutenant General Robert Kibochi, was sworn in at State House in Nairobi yesterday.

Kibochi was promoted in July to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed the Kenya Army commander replacing Lt-Gen Leonard Ngondi, who was posted to the National Defence College as commandant.

President Uhuru Kenyatta witnessed the ceremony that was conducted by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

Uhuru congratulated Kibochi on his appointment and asked him to “continue in that well-treaded path of commitment and dedicated service to the nation”.

The President also commended the troops on their professionalism and service to the nation, especially in the fight against terrorism and in keeping peace across the continent.

He assured KDF of full support and urged them to continue in their efforts to secure the country, saying there cannot be prosperity without security and stability.

Present were Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia, Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe and other senior government officials.
