Ruhinda North County Member of Parliament Capt (rtd) Donozio Kahonda has been sentenced to jail for forgery and uttering false documents.
He has been sent to Kirinya prison to serve nine month sentence by Jinja Chief Magistrate John Bosco Kaggwa.
Kahonda was recently declared MP after defeating his main rival, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, who has been MP since 1996.
The retired Captain was in October 2015 dragged to Jinja Magistrates’ Court and charged with 16 counts of forgery and uttering false documents contrary to the Penal Code Act. He denied the charges and applied for bail, but the state objected on grounds that he would interfere with the investigations. However, Kahonda was later given bail, just in time for him to participate in the February 18, 2016 parliamentary elections for Ruhinda County, which he won.
It is alleged that Kahonda on November 11, 2001 at a military academy in Jinja district, with intent to defraud or deceive, uttered false documents in the particulars of Dickson Mutabazi, purporting that it was a genuine document whereas not.
It is further alleged that Kahonda forged a medical examination form, attestation papers, and declaration form, a record of his finger prints, a signature card and opened an account number 1030052000690 in Post Bank with intent to defraud.
Capt. Kahonda has a history of altercations with the law having also been arrested during the 2011 elections for alleged forgery of academic credentials presented before the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) but was later absolved of criminality.
I suppose if Uganda had a fair and an impartial Criminal Justice System these offence would have been rested! Not that he is an innocent man but because of the Double Jeopardy principle! Otafire and his legal Cohort clearly know that this is a vendetta prosecution and conviction! When will Ugandans learn to play mature politics? Cry my Beloved Motherland!!! And good Riddance!!
