Kalonzo Musyoka’s contract extended by Ugandan Varsity

Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) has extended the Chancellorship of Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka for another four years.

The former Vice President of the Republic of Kenya, who is currently Raila Odinga’s running mate, has been the Chancellor of UTAMU since his appointment in 2013.

Musyoka, a lawyer by profession has previously served as Vice President and Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Kenya for the period 2008-2013.

He is currently the party leader of Wiper Democratic Movement of Kenya and the running mate of National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga for the Presidency of Kenya 2017.

He is expected to preside over the university’s upcoming third graduation ceremony scheduled for September 30 2017 where more than 250 students are expected to graduate with Masters Degrees, Post-graduate Diplomas, Bachelor’s degrees and Undergraduate diplomas in various disciplines.

UTAMU, a private University located in Bugolobi, Kampala, co-founded in 2012 by a total of 28 members. Prominent among them is Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, and the others included Dr. John Ngubiri, F. Tushabe, J.Tumwebaze, D.Mirembe to mentions a few.

From inception, Baryamureeba served as the Vice Chancellor of UTAMU before stepping down in September 2015 to contest in the 2016 Uganda Presidential Elections.

In October 2015, he handed over to Prof. Benon C. Basheka who is the current Vice Chancellor of University.

He was formerly the Dean, School of Business and Management. Currently, UTAMU has grown from five academic programmes to 42 programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The number of students has grown tremendously to over 1800 students at various levels.
