RDC urges Kayihura to prosecute Rukungiri police officer over murder

The Acting Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Moses Nuwagaba, has urged the Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura to consider prosecuting the police officer who shot an innocent young man in Rukungiri yesterday.

The police are said to have used live ammunition and teargas to disperse the crowds that had gathered in the area to attend the FDC campaign rally that was to be addressed by Patrick Amuriat who is contesting for the FDC party presidency. Dr Kizza Besigye, a ‘son of the soil’, had accompanied Amuriat.

“I hear one more person died. Really? This mere debate? Does anyone have to kill to make a point? Why? Killing for who? Don’t say government. It never sent anyone to kill. Don’t say NRM it never assigned anyone to kill. These are just overzealous selfish officers baying for people’s blood just to prove their loyalty,” Nuwagaba posted on his Facebook.

Nuwagaba said the police officers are seeking ranks at the expense of people’s blood, urging the cruel officers to repent. “You have not killed on behalf of all of us in government. You have killed on your own behalf. May u alone smell the blood of the innocent Ugandans you’ve killed for the rest of yo miserable lives. May u smell it in yo food. May u smell it in your tea. May u see it in yo soup. May u find it in yo bed. Only then will u confirm that indeed you killed not on behalf of any of us but on your own behalf,” the RDC added.

According to Nuwagaba, it is time Ugandans got civilized and ready to engage in peaceful debate. “We can debate peacefully. Why war? Why chaos? Why blood? Why corpses? Why stupidity? YOU keep your kids safely home, you kill other people’s children? Really? Is it fair? Didn’t the Speaker say go & consult? What crime is in someone thinking or even rejoicing in what u don’t support? I thought that was maturity and civilization,” he said.

The RDC said: “This nonsense of shooting at Ugandans must stop. Go kill your pigs. “Tumbavu”,” he said. He continueds that the people of Uganda are supreme and that what they choose is what will prevail,” he said.

He urged Dr Besigye to help kids/loved ones of those who die during his political rallies. “If you don’t have the money, float a mobile fon from the deceased’s trusted family members so we can put the little we have. Otherwise am hurting, am saddened, am annoyed,” he concluded.

Interestingly, the Police spokesman for Kigezi region Elly Maate said the young man was hit by a stone which killed him instantly, but other sources say he died of bullet wounds.

Several other people including police officers sustained injuries during a standoff between police and Rukungiri residents.
