Government has blocked ailing Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake Butebi from travelling abroad for further treatment.
Yesterday, family members and business moguls contributed sums of money to enable him go for treatment. The bed ridden MP who sustained injuries in Arua fracas has been undergoing treatment at Rubaga hospital.
Zaake was admitted to hospital after he was dumped by unknown security officers from Gulu police cells where he was incarcerated. President Yoweri Museveni later said the MP escaped from police cells and was wanted by police.
The legislator was nabbed alongside MP elect Kasiano Wadri with Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru, former MP Michael Mabikke and other 26 suspects who are grappling with charges of treason and malicious damage of president’s vehicle that was allegedly pelted by a stone during the procession after holding their conclusive rallies a head of Arua Municipality by-election.
Earlier Rubaga Hospital declined to hand over MP Zaake to police following various documents reportedly written by CID Director, Grace Akullo instructing the administration of the medical facility to handover the patient to police for him to be treated in Mulago hospital.
The hospital however, cleared him to go abroad but when they reached Entebbe Airport, the MP was barred by Immigration and security officials from travelling saying he must produce clearance letter from Akullo.
According to patient’s lawyer Asuman Basalirwa, his client has not received any criminal summons or any document demanding for his transfer for further medication.
