Uganda Premier League: Second round gets underway tomorrow

The second round of the 2018/19 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season resumes tomorrow, Tuesday 29th January 2019 with two games on the menu.

A rejuvenated Express travel to Buhinga with four of their five new signings in line to make their debuts. Brian Umony, Sadiq Ssekyembe, Goffin Oyirwoth and Ivan Ocholit were named in the 21-man squad while Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye misses out due to uncompleted paperwork after his six months loan move from Vipers.

Wasswa Bbosa will face his former employers when his Tooro United FC side entertain the Red Eagles in FortPortal. The reverse fixture at wankulukuku ended in a 2-0 win for Express. Eric Kambale and Ibrahim Kayiwa were the goal scorers.

Express completed the first round in 8th with 21 points, one ahead of Tooro and will seek to make it four points.

In the other game of the day, Police will host relegation-threatened Nyamityobora at the StarTimes stadium in Lugogo.

Juma Balinya will hope to continue with his form he enjoyed in the first round of the season as well as Ruben Kimera and Johnson Odong to help Police.

The Cops won this fixture in the first round 2-1 at Wankulukuku. Police sit 8th on the table with 21 points while Nyamityobora are third from bottom with 9 points.

There will also be two games to be played on Wednesday 30th January, two on Friday 1st February and two on Saturday 2nd February in the matchday 16 fixtures.

KCCA FC finished the first round on top of the table with 36 points, 5 points ahead of top challengers Vipers SC who dropped points against URA FC and Mbarara City drawing both fixtures 1-1.

The Kasasiro boys will begin with a trip to Kakyeka stadium on Wednesday 31st January against Mbarara City while Vipers SC will get the second round of the league underway at home against Kirinya Jinja SSS on Friday, 1st February 2019. Both these fixtures ended in goalless draws in the first round.

Bright Stars will host Onduparaka FC at Champion Stadium Mwererwe while There will be a bottom of the table clash that will see Ndejje University travel to West Nile to face Paidha Black Angels at the Green Light stadium.

Meanwhile, the secondary registration window for the new signings will close on Thursday, 31st January.

The league is expected to end on May 4th, 2019 to give ample time for the Uganda Cranes to prepare for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
