Events promoters drag IGP and the Attorney General to court over Bobi Wine’s shows

Must read

The two events promoters, Abtex Productions and Bajjo Events and Marketing Agency Limited have dragged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martins Okoth Ochola and the Attorney General, William Byaruhanga to court over the banning of music shows of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Through their lawyers led by the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, they are challenging a decision made by the police chiefs to indefinitely stop the applicants from organising Kyarenga Extra Concerts at One Love Beach Busabala, Lira, Gulu, and Arua.

Mr. Abby Musinguzi aka Abtex is the proprietor of Abtex promotions while Andrew Musaka, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bajjo events, said they had entered into an agreement with Bobi Wine and his crew to provide entertainment at a nonrefundable cost of Shs 230 million to entertain revelers during the Easter festivities this year.

Speaking at High Court, Abtex said, they do want to be compensated for losses incurred in the past music shows that were blocked but police but instead they want Bobi Wine back on stage for them to resume working.

“Shs 1.8billion compensated to other promoters should have been made in two music shows, Kyarenga concert in Busabala and Arua would generate Shs2 billion. With these shows, we employ many people,” he said.

They now want the High court to quash IGP’s decision and order him to provide security at their Concerts. The matter is yet to be fixed for hearing.

With the recent scenario on east Monday, the MP was blocked from holding his annual music show that was slated to take place at his One Love Beach Busabala. In the scuffle police smashed Kyagulanyi glass, sprayed him with teargas before nabbing and driving him back to his home.

President Yoweri Museveni, has since condemned the method that police used to break in to have Bobi Wine arrested but has not stepped up against the officers inflicted in the scuffle.

“I disapprove the method the police used to break the glass of Bobi Wine’s car. They should have towed the vehicle to wherever they wanted him to be. I do not watch TV most of the time because of work,” Mr Museveni said in a statement.
