Over 50 rally drivers register for Pearl of Africa Rally

The Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) have announced that fifty two (52) rally drivers have confirmed their participation in in the 2019 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally.

Uganda’s top Motorsport drivers like Susan Muwonge, Arthur Blick, Lwakataka and Ronald Ssebuguzi are some of the names on the list as well as drivers from Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda.

Jas Mangat who won the 2013 edition navigated by Gihan Da Silva, will be navigated by Joseph Kamya in a Mitsubishi Evo 10 as he leads the local drivers that include 2016 winner Hassan Alwi in a Subaru N14 and Ponsiano Lwakataka who won in 2011 driving a Subaru N12.

The local drivers will battle foreign drivers led by Manvir in a Skoda Fabia R5 and Dharam Pandya from Tanzania.

However, missing in action is the Gomesi Racing Team from Zambia and Giancarlo Davite from Rwanda who have been regulars in the previous events.

The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally (POAUR) 2019 will be the 5th Round of the Federation Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA) Africa Rally Championship.

The total length of the rally will be approximately 476 Kms. It will be run on gravel roads in the private sugar cane plantations 90 Kms east of Kampala, around the town of Kayunga and Busiika.

The rally will run from 2nd to 3rd August.

The championship will see the participation of Uganda’s top Motorsport drivers like Arthur Blick, Leon Ssenyange and Ronald Ssebuguzi as well as the foreign drivers.

The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally is one of the main motorsport events in Uganda. It is part of the National Rally Championship and the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC).

Confirmed participants: Jas Mangat, Manvir Baryan, Dharam Pandya, Christakis Fitidis, Unisan Bakunda, Kepher Walubi, Susan Muwonge, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Duncan Mubiru, Omar Mayanja, Mohamed Ashraf, Arthur Blick Jr, Hassan Alwi, Garcha Rajit Sigh Kuku, Satvinder Saini, Adam Rauf, Godfrey Aine, Yasin Nasser, Godfrey Lubega, Fred Busuulwa, Edson Munyereza, Abas Mayinja, Isaac Sozzi, Alex Wakabi, Amiira Kavuma, Ismail Waligo, Umar Kakyama, Peter Kalule, Samuel Bwette, Francis Omoo, Mustafa Mukasa, Fred Senkumba, Edward Kirumira, Timothy Gawaya, Mansur Sanya, Sadat Negomba, Samuel Watendwa, Najib Sempijja, Innocent Bwamiki, Dr Godfrey Nsereko, Gilbert Balondemu, Abdu Katete, John Burrows Lumu, Posiano Lwakataka, Abdul Sempebwa, Ibrahim Lubega, Peter Businye, Faizal Kayira, Muzamir Watolya, Ismail Lule, Peter Gensi and Kevin Lubambula.
