Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga takes #Covid-19 jab

Must read

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has been vaccinated against #Covid-19 virus and urged eligible people to take the jab. Katikkiro was vaccinated earlier today at Bulange-Mengo.

“Go for vaccination and stop this myth of saying that the vaccine is targeting Africans whose population is steadily increasing. If it was that they wanted us killed, you would have died of other drugs/medicine used for treating among others malaria,” he said.

He urged Ugandans to continue observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Globally there have been 135,446,538 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,927,922 deaths, reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO). As of 7 April 2021, a total of 669,248,795 vaccine doses have been administered.

Uganda has 41,174 confirmed cases of Covid-19 including 337 deaths. Total vaccinated persons against COVID-19: 180,969.

The vaccination campaign target in Uganda stands at 21,936,011 people equivalent to 49.6 percent of the population of Uganda compared with the target population earlier communicated (60 percent and 27,000,000 people) in line with WHO and Africa CDC global guidance.

Health workers from both public and private health facilities were the first group to receive the vaccine.

The second group will be the teachers. All teachers will be required to access vaccines from the nearest public health facility starting from HC III up to a National Referral Hospital.

The third category will be all persons above 50 years of age. The next category eligible for vaccination are the 18 to 50-year olds who have the following underlying health conditions: hypertension, Diabetes, cancer, organ diseases such as Liver, Kidney or heart disease. Each category will be alerted on the days on which to report for vaccination.
