The former Coordinator of Intelligence Agencies, Gen David Tinyefunza aka David Sejusa has again missed on the list of retiring Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officers.
The senior officer has for several times missed on the list despite all efforts including court intervention. In 2018, UPDF had included his name on the list of the 19 Generals who retired from the Army but it was later erased.
In 2016, the High Court ruled that Tinyefunza was no longer a serving UPDF officer since he had spent years without getting benefits from the army.
In her ruling, Justice Margeret Oumo said that Gen Sejusa was entitled to constructive discharge from the army since he no longer receives a salary and other benefits nor he has been deployed by the UPDF for one and a half years.
Today, a total of 14 General officers, 604 Senior and junior officers will retire from the forces. The retirement ceremony for the Generals will be held at State House Entebbe whereas for the other retirees, it will be in their respective services Headquarters, formations and units.
Earlier Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, the spokesperson of UPDF said the UPDF recognize commitments, sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to offering security service to the country at a time where many shunned joining the liberation struggle in favour of maintaining the status quo.
“Because of their service, the country’s course of history has been over turned across all spectrums, from an almost total shutdown to a now robust and sound economy with guaranteed peace and stability in the entire country,” she said adding that, “The UPDF family congratulates the retirees for successfully completing their active duty in the forces.”
