Mumbere bail application for Thursday

Must read

The preliminary ruling for Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere’s application for bail in the High Court has been set for Thursday, January 12.

The decision has been made by Justice Eva Luswata, while hearing Mumbere’s case at the Jinja High Court.

Mumbere is charged with treason, terrorism and murder among other crimes and is currently on remand at Luzira Prisons.

His incarceration at Nalufenya Police station and later in Luzira followed an attack on his palace, where over 100 people including security agents and the Rwenzururu Kingdom royal guards were reportedly killed.

Meanwhile, as the Mumbere battles the court cases, another self-styled ‘Prince’ Swaleh Tibamwenda has once again emerged, claiming the Bakonzo are ready to install him as the new cultural leader, to replace Mumbere.

Mr Tibamwenda first made the Rwenzururu regal claims in 2007 but was rejected amid claims that his father, a one Basikania, was ‘just’ a clan head in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
