FDC Presidency: MP Munyagwa nominated in dramatic fashion, vows to ‘revolutionise’ party

Must read

Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa has been nominated to vie for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidency, vowing to ‘revolutionise the party.

According to Munyagwa, if voted FDC President the party’s Najjanankumbi headquarters will renamed the ‘Revolution House’ and that party members will be called ‘freedom fighters’ who will report to ‘freedom chiefs’ at the sub county level to ‘battalion commanders’ at the district levels, with him at the helm as ‘chief commander’.

Saying he would ‘rebrand’ the party, Munyagwa also compared FDC to a football team.

“The party has always had its striker and that is Colonel Kizza Besigye but it lacked a good midfielder to always supply him with passes to cause a tremendous political change in Uganda,” he said, causing laughter.

The MP then vowed to lead a robust campaign to overthrow President Yoweri Museveni, who he referred to as ‘common enemy’ if the latter does not step down after the conclusion of his term.

‘’Museveni is an entrepreneur of chaos’’ Munyagwa said, as he implored police to protect him in the campaigns rather than causing violence and disturbances.

Meanwhile, unlike other candidates like Major General Gregory Mugisha Muntu and former Kumi MP Patrick Oboi Amuriat who attracted huge following and were accompanied by bands for their respective nominations, the comic Munyagwa made a low-key arrival with about ten supporters in tow.

But that did not deter Munyagwa, who had no public figure seconding him, to get nominated.

He then caused another bout of laughter when he was presenting his documents to FDC Electoral Commission chairperson Dan Mugarura, when each document he was asked to produce including the National ID, A Level Certificate and Passport were tendered in by different people ‘for security reasons’.

And upon nomination, Munyagwa, who said he has been a party member for one and a half years, lauded the FDC electoral commission for being ‘transparent and manifesting democracy in the party’.

Earlier, the party had nominated Patrick Oboi Amuriat to contest for the FDC presidency, bringing the number of candidates to six. The other contestants include Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Dan Matsiko, Moses Byamugisha and Moses Bakubi Lukubira, all of who were nominated yesterday.
