Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has indicted the Chief executive Officer of National Gaming Board (NGB) Edgar Agaba as investigations against him continue.

Agaba and his colleague face corruption related charges at the Anti-corruption Court.

It is alleged that Agaba and Patrick Kazoora, NGB’s Finance Manager, failed to account for Shs360 million to the finance ministry in 2018.

In a letter dated July 19, 2019, Kasaija asked Agaba to hand over office and any related government property to NGB Chairperson.

“Reference is made to the above subject matter and my letter Ref. HRM77/99/01 dated January 17, 2017 appointing you the Chief Executive Officer of National Lotteries  and Gaming Board. In light of the above communication and the fact that the charges levied against you relate to financial impropriety against the board, It is necessary that you step down as Chief Executive Officer of the National Lotteries and Gaming Board as we await the outcome of the criminal  proceedings” reads Kasaija’s letter.

However, the chairperson of the board, Manzi Tumubweine was also dropped as a board chairperson. It is alleged that Manzi was the complaint against Agaba and his colleagues. Mr Manzi was replaced by Alosyous Mugasa as the new board chairperson. Eagle Online understands that the move to kick Mr. Agaba was allegedly orchestrated by  Manzi and a lady who hails from Kisoro and runs one of the betting companies and that is how it was reported to State House Anti-Corruption Unit as corruption related

Agaba will however receive half of his basic salary as investigations continue, though the minister added the CEO is not allowed to leave the country without permission.
