UPL clubs to meet own cost of #Covid-19 tests

Must read

In a turn of events, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has asked all Uganda Premier League clubs to finance their own Covid-19 tests ahead of the 2020/21 football season.

In October, FUFA had promised to pre-finance the cost of Covid-19 tests for UPL club players and officials.

However, the clubs have been told to take care of costs for all staff supposed to be tested before matches according the Fufa COVID-19 regulations released on November 24th and copied to all Fufa members including UPL clubs.

“Each club or team shall meet the cost of the Covid-19 PCR test of their participants, with Fufa taking responsibility for the Covid-19 PCR test for Match Officials,” revealed the statement as quoted by Kawowo Sports.

“Only holders of PCR Negative Certificates shall participate in the match,” the document clarifies.

This is opposite to what FUFA had initially stated that they would meet the costs in the first round of testing and then later deduct the money from the club’s sponsorship fees.

Any team that fails to honour a match due to a matter relating to Covid-19, the team in question shall be considered to have lost the game by 3-0.

All matches shall be played without spectators according to the government and Ministry of Health regulations on Covid-19.

The 2020/21 Uganda Premier League is expected to kick off on Thursday December 3rd with the draft fixtures already released.
