Independent presidential candidate Nancy Linda Kalembe has cried out for help from the public following the breakdown of her campaign cars.
The former Uganda Television (UTV) now UBC TV news anchor who decried the poor road network had covered the eastern part of the country except Busoga sub region and Lango sub region.
“I halted my campaign trails last Thursday for lack of funds. Our cars have broken down due to the poor state of roads in the country. I want to ask everyone to contribute to us through the bank, mobile money and other avenues,” she said.
She apologised to her supporters in Mbarara for not meeting them as earlier stipulated and pledged to resume her campaigns when she gets money.
“Please give us your cars to help us in campaigns, we shall handle them well. The campaigns are so costly, in that I travel with not more than 15 people but we have run out of funding,” she said.
She urged people willing to contribute towards her campaigns to send their mobile money on 0787820101 or make a call away for more details.
Who is Nancy Kalemba?
Nancy Kalembe was born to the late former LC-V chairman of Iganga district George Patrick Bageya and Aida Cissy Kubaaza.
She went to St Mary’s College Namagunga for O-Level and Mariam High School for A-Level. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in population studies from Makerere University in 2007.
In 2003, she joined the Miss Uganda contest and although she did not emerge winner, she was voted Miss Intelligence, earning her a job with Sanyu FM. On January 8, 2008, she joined the Apprentice Africa, the African version of the American reality TV show, The Apprentice, hosted by Donald Trump. She emerged sixth out of the 16 finalists, winning a working slot at PHP Bank in Nigeria.
Kalembe returned to Uganda in 2009 and worked with Orient Bank until when she resigned in 2010 to fully concentrate on her businesses.
She is the founder of Spring Clean, a cleaning company, and Mbalimbali Ltd, a pineapple juice and jam-producing company based in Nakawa. Before reaching these heights, Kalembe, 34, tasted the varied waters of employment. She worked as a news anchor at the then Uganda Television (UTV).
She was the account manager for Uganda Telecom (UTL) and account holder for Nation Media Group at Lowe Scanad advertising agency, and sales and promotions executive at Sanyu FM.
