Kadaga snubs NRM retreat as CEC moves to deliberate on Speakership race

Must read

The Speaker of Parliament who doubles as the Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga has snubbed the official opening of retreat of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs-elect taking place at National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi district.

The three week training of 200 NRM MPs-elect and 43 party-leaning independents kicked off last week, is aimed at ideologically re-orient the NRM leadership to enable them to refocus on the socio-economic transformation of Uganda within the broader context of the survival of the African race given the current global pressures and challenges.

At the official opening of the retreat, the Speaker of Parliament did not show up however, her competitor who is also her deputy vying for office of the speaker Jacob Oulanyah was present. The Omoro County MP was clad in military attire as the president officially opened the training.

In her remarks, the NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba said the speaker among other Central Executive Committee (CEC) Members have not been in position to attend the official opening of the retreat but instead will join them in the long run.

“Allow me recognize in absentia members of the CEC who are yet to join us. They have sent apologies that they can’t be here with us but will come,” she said.

This website has also learnt that the CEC members and the six members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) were invited for the retreat but the speaker who is also the vice national Chairperson for NRM has not shown up.

This website has also established that CEC members were invited to deliberate on the standing row between the speaker and her deputy on who should stand for the office of the speaker.
