The opposition Forum for Democratic Change on Monday announced the beginning of the party elections for lower structures in Kampala that will end on Sunday.
The party Spokesperson, Mr John Kikonyogo told journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala that this is the third phase after western and eastern parts of the country were covered in the first and second phases of the party elections.
“Half of Uganda is reached. By tomorrow, we will be left with about 6 districts,” he said.
M r Kikonyogo said he expected Kampala elections to be a success since all preparations were done and the “relevant authorities” had been informed.
Mr Kikonyogo said police had been informed about the activity and security has been guaranteed. “We met with [Felix] Kaweesi, the general letter was written. There’s no way police can stop us.” He said.
Police has been dispersing opposition rallies in Kampala and there are fears among the party members that members would fear turn up for voting.
On the arrest of the former FDC party president Dr. Kizza Besigye, Mr. Kikonyogo lashed out at the police officers who arrested Dr Besigye, saying they were ‘being overzealous.’
He said the meeting at Nsambya where Besigye was arrested was legal but was police blocked it in a move to show their bosses they were working. “It hurts me for some officer to stop Dr. Besigye from meeting his friends,” said Kikonyogo.
The FDC spokesperson accused Kampala South Regional Police Commander Mr. Siraji Bakaleke, the Kampala Metropolitan operations commander of wrongly arresting Dr. Besigye.
“He should not take the law in his hands. Whoever talks against him is arrested. He should stick to his job. He has overstepped his mandate and we will try to stop him. We won’t take more of this nonsense.” he said.
He supported the ongoing teachers’ strike over the demand to have government increase their salaries by 10 percent, saying the teachers are demanding what government had promised them last year.
“The government promised to increase their salaries, now they are demanding it,” said Mr Kikonyogo.

Vipers v BUL – Buikwe Stadium
Bright Stars v SC Villa – Matugga
Police v Soana @Kavumba
Express v URA @Wankulukuku Stadium
Rwenshama v Entebbe @Nakivubo
KCC v Lweza @Lugogo
Sadolin v SC Victoria University – Bugembe Stadium

With the 2014/15 Uganda Premier League (UPL) title race sealed on Friday, as the best team, players and manager secured their prize with a game to spare.

At least the relegation battle should offer us some excitement to determine the third team to go down with already Rwenshama and Entebbe relegated as curtains fall on UPL season today.

Soana, Kira Young, Lweza and Simba are the contenders from which one will go down

Pos       Team                  GP       W       D       L      GF      GA       GD     Pts

11          Lweza FC          29          9       7       13     27        32          5         34
12         Simba                 29          9       7       13     20        26         6          34
13         Kira Young        29          9       7       13     29        34          5         31
14         Soana                 29          8       7       14      31       42         11        31

As the table above reflects, all the four teams have a chance to survive but also can go down.

Despite a 2-1 win against the outgoing Champions, KCC FC at Kavumba, Soana exchanged position with Kira Young who put 7 past Entebbe FC at Bugonga on Friday.

Ashadu-Bugembe (Kira Young goalkeeper) must shut-out Simba.
Ashadu-Bugembe (Kira Young goalkeeper) must shut-out Simba.

Kira moved to 13th on the table because of a superior goal difference albeit in negatives six better than Soana but on same points (31).

Heading into the final day, Lweza and Simba need a point to stay up while Soana and Kira Young need maximum points and hope the other fixtures go their way.

By earning a point, Simba and Lweza will take their tally to 35 points an implication that Kira and Soana on 31 can’t dislodge even with victories.

However, Kira Young host Simba in the decisive game and so have destiny in their own hands.

Soana despite having the thinnest (for survival) chances can beat the drop with victory over Police at the Kavumba Recreation ground if Kira Young doesn’t defeat Simba.

Steven Bogere’s’ side Kira Young must match Soana’s’ result to stay up.
Meanwhile Vipers will officially be crowned the 2014/15 champions after their games against BUL FC in Buikwe.

Golola killing own child; Wathaporn? World Title?

Having revived, made it marketable and made himself and the sport relevant, Moses Golola is slowing dragging the sport of Kickboxing back to the dogs.

The latest of this evidence is his “World Title” victory over a one Wathaporn Kamunstorn from Thailand at Kati Kati Restaurant in the dawn hours of Saturday.

A source working with CNOOC Engineering & Construction Company gave www.eagle.co.ug a shocking brief profile of Wathaporn.

Wathaporn was born in KatiVota, Thailand in 1986. He came to Uganda in 2008 as a potter and started out as a professional brick layer with Zimwe Construction Company where he worked up to the death of Andrew Kasaga (RIP), the proprietor of Zimwe.

He joined CNOOC Company in early 2012 as casual professional brick layer supervisor and it’s where he works up to date.

As a young growing up boy, Watha (as he is known at CNOOC) liked the Thai kickboxing and tired training in Taichi.

“I was only promoting the fight NOT the fighters” Maureen Mulangira, Fight promoter noted.

The fight got underway at 1:30am after a series of dreary under-cards, and Wathaporn could only manage a straight kick before Golola landed what looked like a slap.

Outrageously, Wathaporn went unconscious on the canvas for close to 10 minutes as he struggled to catch his breath before the first aid team rushed into the ring.

He was later taken to Lisa Medical Hospital, Mengo, in an ambulance for further checkups before being discharged later.

As for the said World Kick boxing Federation (WKF) K1 Light weight title, the belt Golola claims to have won by way of knocking out Wathaporn, according to www.wkfworld.com, the World Kicking Boxing Federation website has Morocco’s Sakhi Samir as the title holder.

Sejusa, Kiyingi warn Kayihura over arming civilians

Gen. Kaihura

Gen. Kaihura

Kampala-Former Coordinator of Intelligence and Security agencies, Gen David Sejusa and Sydney based Cardiologist; Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi claim that police is training several groups across the country to suffocate the opposition ahead of the 2016 general elections.

In statement sent to newsrooms and post on Free Uganda Website, Sejusa claims that revelations by Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura to students at YMCA Wandegeya On Friday May 15,last week is part of the grand plan by government to arm civilians and students ahead of the elections in 2016.

“The fact that the police chief, Kale Kayihura, came out to publically declare that the orders to expeditiously arm students and other non-combatants like farmers, shop keepers and boda-boda riders came directly from Museveni himself, signals a clear understanding on the part of Gen. Kayihura of the responsibility that must be borne by whoever gives the actual order for what is likely to become nothing less than a genocide. What Kayihura is doing is to tie that ultimate responsibility to his commander in chief.” Gen. Sejusa said in his statement.

He added “it’s not only the youth but some criminal elements are also trained.” said Gen. Sejusa.

However, Gen. Kayihura dismissed the claim saying that there was no such a plan before rebuking Sejusa as violent person who believes in violence all the time.

“Which group of people, let him show them to us because you know some of these people are just making reckless statements” Said Gen. Kayihura.

While at YMCA, Gen. Kayihura said they are only training crime preventers which is an open system. “We are arming the population to help them protect themselves.”

While visiting the Conservative Party head office in Namirembe Kampala, in his engagement with political parties, Gen. Sejusa warned government that it was taking a dangerous path arming civilians.

“I want the political and democratic forces to know that what they are facing is not only political oppression” Said Gen David Sejusa.

At the same function at YMCA, Gen. Kayihura revealed that President Yoweri Museveni had actually directed him to begin arming civilians especially students in universities and other institutions.

“The strategy is arming you and he has given us the directives which we are now working on. We shall come to consult you on how we shall train you” revealed Gen. Kayihura to students in the NTV footage on Friday.

He also said the Constitution empowers the police to arm Ugandans if need arises. Gen. Kayihura says this system will boost security as well as help in fighting terrorism in the country.

Kiyingi weighs in

In the same spirit, Dr Aggrey Kiyingi, on Friday said it was now official that guns were being given out by government in order to intimidate the population.

“It is snow confirmed that dictator Museveni is arming his clique of thugs and functionaries with guns and lethal weapons for the sole purpose of killing Ugandans should there be a revolt. This is to intimidate the public and he is planning a Rwanda type of genocide.” Kiyingi said.

Adding “However, the general public should not be intimidated; our people’s power is stronger than any of his henchmen, most of whom do not have Uganda as a country at heart. In the event of provocation and public slaughter by Museveni’s henchmen, we must be prepared to defend ourselves by any means possible. Museveni must go”

Dr Kiyingi has declared his interests to contest for the presidency of Uganda in the forthcoming elections but recently government implicated him in the killing of Muslim clerics. However, Dr, Kiyingi maintains that he is innocent and that the allegations are absolute not true.

Morsi has been forced to sit in a soundproof glass cage during the hearings

An Egyptian court has sentenced ousted president Mohammed Morsi to death over a mass prison break in 2011.

The former leader has already been sentenced to 20 years in jail for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his time in power.
The country’s religious authorities will now have to give their opinion before the sentence can be carried out.
Morsi was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.
Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters.

Morsi's supporters took to the streets in protest after he was given a 20-year jail sentence in April

Morsi was among more than 100 other defendants to be sentenced to death for their involvement in mass jail breaks during the 2011 uprising against Egypt’s then-president, Hosni Mubarak.
All death sentences must first be sent to the Grand Mufti, Egypt’s highest religious authority, for his opinion on whether they should stand.
Convictions are still open to appeal, even if the Grand Mufti gives his approval.
Morsi’s supporters have said that the cases against him are politically motivated and attempts to give legal cover to a coup, while Morsi has rejected the authority of the courts.
Morsi was Egypt’s first freely elected president, but protests began building less than a year into his rule when he issued a decree granting himself far-reaching powers.
In May 2014, Morsi’s successor, former military chief Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, secured a landslide victory in presidential elections which had a turnout of 46%.

Aganaga chokes on Maiden concert

Aganaga performing on stage

Aganaga

Oh Khalifa Aganaga promised his fans the show of their lives, he even went ahead to say that his voice was now perfect for a live performance.
At the same time, photos of him practicing with a band flooded social media; preparations were indeed in high gear! And yes, if you did not expect the best out of Aganaga’s first ever concert, it would simply be an ingrate.
Dubbed Nassanga Guddy Guddy Gal, the show which was held in the parking lot of the Bakuli based Ambience club, left many with nothing remarkable to write or think about, perhaps the endless sound glitches.
Though the show kicked off very few people, the opening acts warmed up the audience. These included artistes like RemaNamakula, Mun G, Red top, Obsessions Africa, minayo and many others.
Later on, the long awaited artiste, emerged from the audience like a ‘Heavenly king’ draped in a white robe that fully covered his body, Aganaga sat atop a pearly white chair and belted out lyrics from Minakonda, one of his older songs.

As muscle men carried him and his chair like a true king ready to be worshipped, his loyal subjects, the fans, screamed his name in delight.
Their ululations however died on their lips because the moment he joined the live band on the stage, every thing went downhill. They were barely audible! The revellers in the back sits who could not take it any more began to chant, “Tetuwulira”meaning “we are not hearing”.

With his hard-to-define music genre, it was hard for the band to keep up. One minute we were dancing to Afro beat, the next to reggae and then dancehall. He nevertheless perfomed songs like Mikono wagulu, ekitangaza and Ndabirawa.
His audience which mostly comprised of regular people did not appreciate live band music. They kept asking Aganaga to sing the real songs that they are used to. With the things went, Aganaga has clearly not understood his fan base.
Later on the sound went off completely and Aganaga was forced to go back stage. People kept on asking for refund of their money since the show had at that point flopped but the MCs kept on calming them down as the sound was being fixed.

After it was fixed, Aganaga curved in to the audience’s demands. The live band was put away and he came back in a new style. This time, dressed in Black, he tried to perform the dancehall music that the fans wanted.
“Sound can’t stop me!” he shouted to the now visibly excited fans. He called for unity in the music industry saying that he has no quarrel with any artiste as he invited his longtime friend, Coco Finger who gave him one glove and remained with one as a sign of one love.
