Turinawe still missing as LoP Wafula Oguttu’s home is besieged

Must read

Police have besieged Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Member of Parliament and leader of opposition in Parliament Philip Wafula Oguttu’s home in Naalya preventing him from going to work in the process.

The opposition party also claims their secretary for mobilisation Ms Ingrid Turinawe is still missing after disappearing over the weekend.

According to Oguttu the outgoing Bikhooli central constituency legislator, no one is allowed to access his home from outside or leave (for those already inside).

“My residence is besieged and a police car, seven security officers and two motorcycles blocking my gate. Effectively putting me under house arrest without any crime committed,” Hon. Oguttu says.

“They deployed at night. I was preparing to go to my office in Parliament early this morning and later attend my last Parliamentary Commission meeting at 10.00am,” he added.

The FDC party says security has also surrounded the home of their spokesperson Ssemujju Nganda while their former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye’ home in Kasangati, Wakiso District remains surrounded by Police officers as well.

The joint security operations as per our master plan of policing elections are still ongoing probably till when President Museveni’s inauguration on May 12 which the opposition is seeking to block is concluded, Uganda Police says.

FDC party leaders insist that the ‘free my vote campaign’ will continue despite a court order to halt all activities under the campaign.

The Court of Appeal blocked the party or any of its agents against organising any procession or carrying on with the defiance campaign pending determination of a Constitutional case filed by Government.

They accuse the government of resorting to desperate measures to retain power, adding that the reason for the ban is unclear thus should not be taken seriously.
