The Kampala Capital city Authority Director of Physical Planning Moses Atwine has today unveiled a US$2.8 million plan by the city authorities to name 2050 roads in the city.

Addressing a press conference at Uganda Media center this morning, Mr Atwine said the money is to kick start the process, and that KCCA expects the public to foot part of the bill by buying plates which will cost between Shs50, 000 and  Shs100, 000.

According to Mr. Atwine, the process is the second phase of the Kampala Infrastructural Institutional Development Programme (KIIDP) whose funding is a loan from World Bank worth US$183 million.

The KCCA supervisor of training of operational guidelines and public awareness Mr Daniel Nuwabiine, said about US$3 million will go to revenue collections.

He said there was a 20% increment in the revenue collection by KCCA in the 2015-2016 financial years, bringing it to Shs15b, and added that the Authority expected to raise, adding that at least Shs112 billion by the end of 2016-2017 financial year.

He attributed the raise to the automation of payment platforms, tax payment sensitisation and accepting of part payment of tax.

Mr Nuwabine said money collected from property rates will be used in road maintenance and construction, garbage collection and other service delivery, adding that about Shs 40 billion is required to boost the current KCCA budget.
