Junior Gazelles set for FIBA U16 Women’s African Championship

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced that the Uganda U16 Women’s National Team – the Junior Gazelles will take part in the upcoming FIBA U16 Women’s African Championship set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda.

The team has been in residential camp at the African Bible University in Lubowa and they are very confident about raising the nation’s flag high in this tournament.

The Junior Gazelles will face competition from the record five-time reigning champions Mali, Egypt, Angola, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique and hosts Rwanda in a battle for the continental trophy.

The championship will be played from July 28 to August 3 at the Amahoro Indoor National Stadium.

This is the first time that Uganda is competing in this event and the team is indeed excited about donning the national colours.

The contingent will depart for Kigali this Friday, July 26 and they will need to finish among the top two teams to qualify for the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup 2020.

“We are grateful to the Government of Uganda through the National Council of Sports for the continuous support they have offered our National Team programs over the years.” Nasser Serunjoji the FUBA president said while flagging off the team.
