Bobi wine to storm EC offices over blockage of his consultation meetings

The patron of people power, a political pressure group in Uganda who doubles as Kyadondo east MP, Robert Kyagulanyi, has vowed to storm electoral commission (EC) offices seeking for clarification over continuous blockage of his consultation meetings.

The singer was last years cleared by the electoral commission to carry out countrywide consultations after declaring his ambitions to stand against the incumbent president Yoweri Museveni.

“The dictator is in panic and we are not giving up. Tomorrow morning, we head to the Electoral Commission to demand for answers. This is our country” He said after being abandoned at Karuma Bridge.

On Monday, the MP among other individuals were arrested a head of his first consultation meeting at Our Lady of Good Counsel church in Gayaza, Catholic Parish after police declared it illegal under public order management (POMA). They were later detained at Naggalama police station before releasing them in the wee hours of the night.

As per the program, the MP was supposed traverse through seven districts seeking for people’s views about his intentions to stand for presidency. The seven districts include Wakiso, Gulu, Lira, Adjumani, Yumbe, Lira and Zombo.

On Tuesday, police sealed off De covenant lodge in Gulu municipality where the singer was meant to convene his second consultative meeting and yesterday, MP Kyagulanyi, Matthias Mpuga and Muwanga Kivumbi were forced to abandon their car as they headed to Lira and bundled up in a police car and eventually, they abandoned them around Karuma Bridge.

According to Bobi Wine, their consultation meeting in Lira was cleared by police after meeting all requirements.

Alluding to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, they received Bobi wine’s the letter seeking for clearance a head of his consultation meetings Public Order Management Act (POMA) stipulates.

“He is supposed to notify the area LC1, police and the authorities then when the meeting is taking place we go and access whether the requirements are in place,” Mr Enanga
