The city mortuary at Mulago National Referral hospital had by 10 am recorded a total of 16 dead bodies arising from protests that happened on Wednesday following the arrest following the protests sparked off after National Unity Platform Presidential Flag bearer was arrested in Luuka district on Wednesday.
Mulago has confirmed 16 dead bodies.
According to Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, the Police Chief Pathologist told this reporter that of 16 dead bodies, 15 are men and one lady who lost their lives as a result of Wednesday protests.
Dr Byaruhanga said that many were injured in the protest therefore; they are expecting more bodies. This reporter has witnessed other three dead bodies being brought to Mortuary after he had spoken to Dr Byarugaba.
The deceased died as result of shooting, and others were hit by running vehicles in the process of security battling with protesters.
While talking to relatives and friends of the deceased, this website learnt that most of the people who lost their lives were the people who have been killed by stray bullets while doing their own business.
Moreen Nakazibwe from Nansana a resident of Nansana ku kiblock who lost her husband called Peter Kintu narrated to Eagle Online that her husband was shot dead by an LDU soldier and he has left seven children. She further revealed that her husband left town and went home avoiding protests and he was shot when he was near his home while in conversation with friends.
Nasser Kongora whose brother hails from Kayunga and identified as Ayub Kongoro A 26 year old who was shot dead when his was in Kisenyi in a store, says that he was shocked to hear that the brother was shot dead yet he knew that his brother is a peace loving person who hates violence.
Meanwhile Police have beefed up security at City Mortuary, Mulago to control the place as many people have reported to pick the bodies of relatives and friends died in the protests, police also have turned some to avoid crowds at the city Mortuary.
