Kawempe North Member of Parliament-elect Muhammad Ssegirinya has been granted Shs3 million cash bail after spending three weeks at Kitalya Maximum prison.
Ssegirinya was arrested on March 22nd for leading an unlawful peaceful protest demanding for the release of National Unity Platform-NUP members. He was intercepted at Mini price in Kampala, holding placards bearing messages demanding the release of the detained party supporters.
Appearing before the magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu, Segirinya was charged with inciting violence and subsequently remanded to Kitalya prison.
Through his Lawyers led by Jonathan Kiryowa and Shamim Malende applied for bail however when he appeared before Court last week, State prosecutor told court that they are ready to proceed with the matter but the lawyers were not ready for the hearing of the case but for his bail application.
And today his lawyers let by Medard Seggona; the MP elect was released on bail as his sureties were bonded Shs50m, not cash and ordered to leave the original copies of their national IDs in court.
