Museveni receives second #Covid-19 jab

Must read

President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni have today received their second #Covid-19 vaccination jabs of AstraZeneca.

He urged Ugandans to continue observing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and avoid social media sensationalism about the pandemic as infections continue rising sharply in the second wave.

“Mama Janet Museveni and I took the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. I urge Ugandans to get vaccinated. We started with the high-risk groups like health workers, teachers, the elderly, security, and people with comorbidities. Our target is to cover over four million people,” Museveni said after being vaccinated.

In his previous address on Covid-19 last week, President Museveni confirmed that in Uganda, there are four new Covid variants from South Africa, India, UK and Nigeria.

The cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to date are 49,759 with 365 deaths. 1,125,306 tests have been conducted since March 2020 while the cumulative recoveries are 47,760.

Yesterday Wednesday he met the national task force on the COVID-19 response to discuss the new steps to take to curb the new wave in the country.

“I met the National Taskforce on COVID19 this afternoon at State House Entebbe. I will address the Nation on Sunday 6th June at 8pm on the steps we have decided to take to curb the new wave,” Museveni said.

According to the Health Ministry, 677,084 people have been vaccinated so far. Museveni said he would open the country fully if 4.4 million Ugandans are vaccinated.
