Gulu University innovators of #Covid-19 drug set to meet Museveni

A team of key stakeholders from Gulu University behind the latest invention of a #Covid-19 herbal dubbed as Covilyce, is set to meet with President Yoweri Museveni.

Led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor George Openjuru Ladaa, the brains behind the ‘discovery’ are set to meet with the president to discuss the dynamics regarding the drug that is being touted as #Covid 19 treatment.

Gulu University through its Faculty of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Studies led by Dr. Alice Lamwaka this week headlined the news with a herbal remedy for #Covid-19 named Covilyce that allegedly works wonders within 72 hours.

According to James Onono Ojok, the University Deputy Spokesperson, said the University team first met with the #Covid 19 task force and is to extend the discussions to State House. Mr. Onono went on to dispute media reports that government had blocked mass production of Covilyce because it is not yet approved by the National Drug Authority.

He further said “Dr. Lamwaka and the team are still conducting tests on selected COVID-19 patients and the drug has not been let out to the public.”

Mr. Onono said the team from National Drug Authority (NDA) aurged  Gulu University to formally write to  them about the drug.

Recently, President Museveni flagged off the first ever herbal drug, Covidex which aids in the treatment of #Covid-19. Covidex was founded by prof. Peter Ogwang, lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
