Museveni to retire 14 army generals as Tumwine begs not to be retired

President Yoweri Museveni is this afternoon due to retire 14 army generals from Uganda Peoples Defence Forces.

Eagle Online can reveal that among those to be retired are from the ranks of Brigadier General to General. Sources reveal that former Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt. Ivan Koreta is among those to be retired. Former Security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwine who had been lined up for retirement is started to have asked the Commander in Chief and the promotions board of the UPDF to reconsider their decision of retiring him as he still wants to serve.

A total of 14 General officers, 604 Senior and Junior officers will be retirees, the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed. This website couldn’t verify whether the former Coordinator of intelligence Services, Gen. David Sejusa is among those to be retired. Gen. Sejusa has for long asked to be retired by authorities have declined his request.

The retirement ceremony for the Generals will be held at State House Entebbe whereas for the other retirees, it will be in their respective services Headquarters, formations and units.

In a statement from the army spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, she said the UPDF recognizes their commitments, sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to offering security service to the country at a time where many shunned joining the liberation struggle in favour of maintaining the status quo.

She added; “Because of their service, the country’s course of history has been over turned across all spectrum, from an almost total shutdown to a now robust and sound economy with guaranteed peace and stability in the entire country.”

“The UPDF family congratulates the retirees for successfully completing their active duty in the forces.”
