In a startling revelation, a senior officer at the Electoral Commission has come under scrutiny for allegedly exhausting an astronomical amount of fuel totaling sh1.6 billion in just six days.
Details surrounding the excessive fuel consumption indicate that the officer in question sanctioned daily fuel expenditures ranging from Shs70 million to Shs80 million for the department of finance, an office attached to the electoral commission operations based in Kampala.
The revelation sheds light on potential financial mismanagement within the electoral commission, particularly concerning the allocation and utilization of public funds.
Questions regarding the necessity and legitimacy of the fuel expenses demand urgent answers to ensure accountability and uphold public trust in the electoral process.
As a result, the `Police’s `criminal `investigation `Directorate is probing the misappropriation of funds at the electoral commission, Eagle Online, has seen documents with details related to the probe.
Until this publication, Joseph Lwanga, head of finance at the electoral commission remains the subject of the police probe.
When contacted Paul Bukenya, the ~Electoral Commission spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, saying he would revert. He had not done so by press time.
