The former Executive Secretary of Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), Mathew Bukenya, has passed on.
His death was confirmed by Jennifer Kalule, the spokesperson for UNEB.
“We are saddened by the passing of Matthew Bukenya. His guidance and mentorship meant the world to most of us at UNEB. We will always cherish the lessons he imparted and the support he provided,” she said.
She said Bukenya’s leadership was temporary, guiding, and inspiring. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and minds.
Bukenya retired from UNEB on March 31, 2016, having been at the helm of the National Examinations’ board from April 1995 to April 2016.
In 2015, the search process for his replacement ran into trouble after a dispute erupted with Fagil Monday, the then-board chairman, resigning after President Yoweri Museveni renewed Bukenya’s contract, which he opposed.
Mandy had also been accused of ring-fencing the process to suit one of the candidates, and the Inspector General of Government halted the search process since, according to him, he had not followed the right procedures.
