President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday chaired the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where he challenged ruling party legislators to place greater emphasis on improving healthcare services, intensifying the fight against corruption and fostering unity within the party and across the country.
The high-level caucus meeting brought together NRM Members of Parliament, Cabinet ministers and senior party leaders to discuss key national priorities as Parliament prepares for a new legislative session. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of government programmes and the party’s development agenda.
Addressing the legislators, Museveni said strengthening Uganda’s healthcare system remains one of the government’s foremost priorities, noting that better health services are essential for improving the quality of life and supporting national development.
He also renewed his call for an uncompromising fight against corruption, urging NRM legislators to work together in exposing misuse of public resources and ensuring that government funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
“We must continue improving healthcare, decisively fight corruption and remain united as the NRM while working with all Ugandans for the country’s transformation,” Museveni told the caucus.
The President stressed that corruption undermines service delivery, weakens public confidence in government institutions and slows socio-economic transformation, calling on leaders to demonstrate integrity and accountability in public office.
He further urged members of the ruling party to maintain cohesion and avoid internal divisions, saying unity has remained one of the NRM’s greatest strengths throughout its four decades in power.
“Unity within the party and among all Ugandans is essential if we are to sustain peace, stability and development,” Museveni said.
The meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo, one of Uganda’s premier conference venues that regularly hosts major government summits, political retreats and international meetings, comes as the NRM government continues implementing its development programmes aimed at improving public services, expanding infrastructure and creating more economic opportunities across the country.
Museveni’s remarks echoed his long-standing position that political leaders must actively monitor government programmes, expose corruption and ensure that public investments directly benefit ordinary citizens. He has repeatedly argued that improved service delivery, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, education and wealth creation, is central to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The NRM Parliamentary Caucus serves as the ruling party’s principal platform for discussing government policy, harmonising legislative priorities and building consensus on issues before Parliament. Friday’s meeting reinforced the party’s focus on strengthening governance, improving essential public services and maintaining unity as it advances its national development agenda.
