Stanbic Bank Uganda has expanded access to unsecured loans through a revamped Oli in Charge campaign, increasing financing for salaried workers, entrepreneurs and farmers as households prepare for the third school term and businesses seek capital for growth.
The campaign, relaunched as the bank marks 35 years of operations in Uganda, is designed to make borrowing faster, simpler and more inclusive while encouraging customers to access credit through Stanbic’s digital platforms.
The lender said the initiative comes at a time when many Ugandan households are facing growing financial demands from school fees, business expansion and agricultural investments as the country enters the final quarter of the year.
Speaking during the relaunch, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Distribution, Sylvia Atuhairwe, said the campaign reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting customers with affordable and accessible financing solutions.
“Today is not just about relaunching a campaign. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to being a trusted partner in our customers’ financial journeys. Behind every loan application is a parent preparing for a school term, a business owner seeking to expand, a farmer investing in production, or a family planning for the future,” Atuhairwe said.
She said the initiative aligns with the bank’s purpose of driving Uganda’s economic growth by helping customers turn their financial ambitions into reality through timely access to credit.
Under the revamped campaign, salaried customers can access unsecured loans of up to Shs350 million with repayment periods of up to 120 months, while non salaried customers, including farmers and entrepreneurs, can borrow up to Shs250 million without collateral.
Stanbic said it has simplified loan processing to reduce barriers to borrowing, particularly for customers who need urgent financing for education, business or farming.
Atuhairwe also urged parents to embrace the bank’s digital payment channels for school fees and other essential transactions.
“As we prepare for the third school term, we encourage parents to choose Stanbic’s digital channels for school fees and other important payments. Through our mobile app, USSD platform, internet banking and agency network, customers can make payments quickly, securely and conveniently without the stress of carrying cash or spending hours in queues,” she said.
The bank has placed digital lending at the centre of the campaign as more Ugandans increasingly rely on mobile financial services. Uganda has one of East Africa’s fastest growing digital banking markets, driven by widespread mobile phone usage and expanding financial technology services.
Stanbic’s Head of Digital and E Commerce, Yvone Namutosi, said customers can now apply for loans through the Stanbic Mobile App and the bank’s USSD platform and receive loan decisions in as little as two minutes, eliminating paperwork and reducing the need to visit branches.
“At Stanbic, we are reimagining how customers access credit. Through our digital platforms, customers can apply for a loan from wherever they are and receive a response in as little as two minutes. The process is quick, secure and designed around the customer,” Namutosi said.
She added that customers accessing Instant Cash loans of up to Shs5 million through Stanbic Mobile Banking will benefit from interest free access under the campaign’s promotional terms, making short term borrowing more affordable.
The bank is also waiving selected charges on digital loan disbursements as part of efforts to promote innovation, convenience and financial inclusion.
Beyond lending, Stanbic has integrated insurance into the campaign to encourage responsible borrowing and protect customers taking on new financial commitments.
The bank’s Insurance Manager, Dogo Singh, said access to credit should be accompanied by financial protection, particularly for customers purchasing assets or investing in businesses.
“A loan can help you acquire an asset, invest in a business or achieve an important personal goal, but insurance helps ensure that those achievements are protected. True financial control is not only about accessing money. It is also about protecting your future and the people who depend on you,” Singh said.
Stanbic Bank Uganda, a subsidiary of Stanbic Uganda Holdings and part of the Standard Bank Group, has over the past three and a half decades expanded its footprint across the country through branches, agent banking, mobile banking and digital financial services.
The bank says its renewed focus on unsecured lending is intended to widen access to credit for individuals and businesses while supporting Uganda’s broader financial inclusion agenda and economic transformation.
