Security Guard guns down UCU Student

Crime scene

Mukono Police Division is investigating the circumstances under which Christian University (UCU) student was gunned down.

Agaba Rudeny was killed by Tugume Kadili, a private security guard who was manning Meru Fuel Station in Kiwanga, Mukono District.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokespersons preliminary investigations suggest that a dispute arose between a private security guard and the deceased. It is alleged that the deceased attempted to climb over a wall fence within the security guard’s assigned area, leading to an escalated situation.

“In response, the security guard discharged his firearm, fatally injuring the individual. Prompt medical attention was provided, and the victim was rushed to Gwatilo Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead,” he said.

He said police recovered two cartridge casings. An army green vehicle with registration number UAW403S was present at the scene, exhibiting a suspected bullet hole. Additionally, a firearm was recovered as a potential weapon used in the shooting. Live ammunition was found near the suspected pool of blood. All these items were seized as evidence.

“As part of the ongoing investigation, the primary suspect, Tugume Kadili, has been apprehended and is currently detained at Seeta Police Station,” he said.

He said Mukono Police Division is fully committed to conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. We urge the public to remain calm and patient as we diligently work to gather all the necessary facts. Any further updates or significant developments will be communicated in due course.

BBC’s Alan Kasujja lambasts MP Ssemujju over ill-talking about Sudhir’s rental business with gov’t

Allan Kasujja

BBC journalist who presents BBC Newsday Alan Kasujja has laughed at Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssdmujju’s assertion that government pays Shs97 million every day to Kampala mongul Sudhir Ruparelia for office space on some his buildings in Kampala.

Sudhir runs various companies under the Ruparelia Group of Companies and one of them, Meera Investments deals in construction of rental buildings and executive office space. One of the buildings is Kingdom Kampala.

According to Kasujja, Sudhir does his real business well and does not see why Ssemujju should is concerned about the businessman legally hiring office space to government. Sudhir also rents his properties to the private sector at reasonable rental fees.

Kasujja avers: “I don’t have cows. Pius does. We discuss. Agree terms. By the way Pius has a reputation as a very serious meat fella. That’s his business. He knows everything about meat. We’ve done business before and he’s as good as I can find. GoU isn’t in real estate. Sudhir is. It’s his core business. They’ve done business for ages. What’s the issue?”

However, Government is in the business of constructing permanent homes for its various MDAs most recent being PPDA, URF, URA, OAG, UCC, ERA, PAU, NMS, MoFPED (under construction).

Ssemujju, in an interview with journalists’ days ago said government of Uganda pays the businessman up to Shs600,000 every minute for government to rent some of his buildings, claiming further that the same government offered free Shimoni, CMI and other land to the businessman to develop. However, Shimoni land was first given out to another investor to construct a hotel as the country was gearing up for Chogm but the investor never responded on time before it was sold to Sudhir. For CMI land, the businessman in exchange, bought land and constructed the military spy agency a home on Mbuya hill.

In a statement, Ssemujju said, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs gives Sudhir Ruparelia Shs450m monthly in rent.

The Ministry of ICT gives the same businessman Shs320m in rent, the Ministry of Gender at Simbamanyo pays Shs250m monthly, the Anti-Corruption court in Kololo gives Sudhir Shs180m per month. Among other government agencies and departments.

This, according to Ssemujju is exclusive of the amount of money government of Uganda pays to the businessman for hosting different conferences at his hotels including Speke and Commonwealth Resorts in Munyonyo. However, this is not illegal as Sudhir has to offer services to the guests.

Ssemujju said, the President now needs to tell the country what is so special with Sudhir the businessman, “And how does Sudhir sniff these opportunities from government.” This, statement, according to a member of parliament is malicious since there is a process through which government hires office space for its departments.

Regulations Regarding Winnings from Overseas Casinos and Sportsbooks by Kenyans

Online gambling is becoming increasingly popular in Kenya, and Mozzartbet login in Kenya has become an important part of the online gaming landscape. With the increase in popularity comes increased scrutiny from regulators to ensure that all winnings are properly documented and taxed appropriately. In this article, we’ll examine the regulations regarding winnings from overseas casinos and sportsbooks by Kenyans, so you can ensure that your gaming activities comply with local laws.

Overseas Casinos and Sportsbooks Accepting Kenyan Players

Overseas casinos and sportsbooks that accept Kenyan players are a great way for Kenyans to enjoy the full range of gambling activities they have access to. These establishments provide a safe environment in which customers can bet, and they are regularly monitored by international regulatory bodies. This ensures that customers are protected from any unscrupulous practices and fraud.

One major benefit of playing at overseas casinos and sportsbooks is that Kenyan players have access to a wider range of games and better bonuses than those offered in local casinos. This includes progressive jackpots, large bonus offers, free spins, VIP programs, tournaments, and more. Moreover, these casinos often feature a variety of payment methods that allow customers to deposit funds quickly and securely.

Those who are looking for an even more immersive experience can take advantage of live dealer games such as baccarat, blackjack, roulette, poker, and more. Live dealer games provide an added layer of realism since the players can see their opponents in real-time while playing their cards or spinning the wheel. Additionally, many overseas casinos also offer virtual sports betting options where players can predict the outcome of matches or races with virtual currencies.

In addition to offering a wide selection of casino game titles, many overseas casinos also provide secure banking options so customers can easily make deposits or withdrawals with minimal fees. Popular payment methods include credit cards, e-wallets like Skrill and Neteller, bank transfers, prepaid cards like EcoPayz or Entropay as well as cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. As such it is up to each player to determine which payment method suits them best when it comes time for making deposits or withdrawing winnings from the casino account.

Overall, overseas casinos and sportsbooks accepting Kenyan players offer numerous advantages for those looking to play online including a wide selection of game titles, competitive bonuses, secure banking solutions, live dealer games, and virtual sports betting. All this helps ensure that Kenyans have an enjoyable gaming experience without having to worry about any legal repercussions associated with their winnings from foreign gaming sites.

Tax Implications on Winnings Received from Overseas Casinos & Sportsbooks

When it comes to gambling winnings received from overseas casinos and sportsbooks, Kenyan gamblers must be aware of the tax implications. Winnings from online gambling are considered taxable income in Kenya, and thus the government requires gamblers to declare their winnings. Depending on the amount won, a gambler may have to pay between 15 to 30% in taxes. The amount of tax paid depends on whether or not the gambler is registered with the Kenyan Revenue Authority (KRA).

Those who are registered with KRA are required to annually file a tax return and declare all their earnings from gambling activities abroad. The profits that come from such activities are subject to income tax at both local and international levels – as well as Value Added Tax (VAT). It is important for players to keep records of their wins in order to calculate how much money they owe in taxes when filing their returns.

In order to properly report any winnings from overseas casinos and sportsbooks, Kenyans must also keep track of certain documents that will be needed when filing tax returns. These include receipts or other proofs that show how much was won and lost while playing online games. Players must also provide evidence of their identity by presenting an approved identification document before being allowed to file their claims.

By understanding the regulations regarding overseas casino & sportsbook winnings, Kenyans can better prepare for any potential tax implications when it comes time for them to pay up. Adhering to these rules ensures that gamblers stay on top of their responsibilities towards paying taxes on their winnings – ultimately giving them peace of mind knowing they’re doing everything right.

Regulations Regarding Withdrawals & Deposits into International Betting Accounts

Another set of regulations that Kenyan gamblers need to be aware of relate to deposits and withdrawals into international betting accounts. All transactions between a Kenyan bank account or credit card and an international betting account must be done through authorized payment channels only; these include banks like Barclays Bank, Stanbic Bank, Equity Bank etc., as well as registered agents like Western Union Money Transfer and Skrill (formerly MoneyBookers). Furthermore, all payments made into foreign betting accounts must be declared in full according to existing exchange control regulations set out by Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Conclusion

When playing with money won at overseas casinos or sportsbooks in Kenya, Kenyans should ensure they comply with local gambling laws regarding taxes on winnings received abroad as well as authorized payment channels for depositing/withdrawing funds into international betting accounts. By following these guidelines closely, they can rest assured knowing that their winnings will remain safe without any legal repercussions attached.

Opposition kicks off discussions on Constitutional and Electoral Reforms in Uganda

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LOP) Mathias Mpuuga

The Opposition legislators in Parliament have launched consultations on proposals for the amendment of the Constitution to introduce reforms that they hope will improve the country’s political landscape.

Speaking at a three-day consultative workshop on Constitutional and Electoral reforms at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Mathias Mpuuga said that the process was intended to energise and refocus efforts of all change-seeking forces in Uganda to make the country’s Constitution matter and all legislations that derive from it.
“The Opposition in and outside Parliament needs to find the necessary motivation and drive to make these areas for reform rallying points for the entire country and all stakeholders in Uganda’s democratic process. We need to summon the traditional and non-traditional bases into this conversation. It should become a matter of public duty and burden like most other citizenry obligations, not a preserve of politicians and their traditional allies,” said Mpuuga.

He noted that the current state of the country’s rule of law and constitutionalism has occasioned wasteful expenditure of public resources and exacerbated political tensions, hence a need for urgent reforms to shape Uganda’s political landscape.
“I don’t find it tenable to wait for the Constitutional Review by government. Over the last three years, there have been vain attempts by the government to initiate constitutional and electoral reforms. It is this deliberately obscure stance that prompted some of our colleagues, like Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, to initiate Constitutional (Amendment) Bills. But this process was foiled to pave the way for the government process. I believe Parliament should assert its role and sufficiently apply itself to the legitimate demands of our time,” LOP said.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu expressed pessimism about the implementation of proposed reforms under the current government.
“We all know that the cornerstone of any democracy is a Constitution that guarantees the rights and freedoms of its citizens. Our Constitution should be protected from manipulations and amendments which serve the interests of individuals rather than the collective aspirations of the nation,” said Kyagulanyi.

He appealed to his counterparts and Ugandans, regardless of political affiliation to work together in pursuit for change.
Representing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Soroti Woman MP, Anna Adeke said that the discussion on electoral reforms is a bit frustrating because of the lack of political will from the ruling government.
On the other hand, the Acting president of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Sadam Gayira said that his party would consider proposals from the consultative workshop and come up with a position on the amendments.

Discussing a paper on how the legislature and courts can safeguard the Constitution, Prof. Joe Oloka Onyango asked Opposition MPs not to accept a government-appointed Constitutional Review Commission, arguing that any attempts to amend the Constitution should be bottom-up led.

“The Opposition in and outside Parliament has to keep the government on its toes. Something has to be done about the growing militarization which has weakened our institutions. People must force this process. It has to be a collective struggle for fundamental change,” said Prof. Oloka.

Marburg Virus Disease outbreak in Tanzania declared over

Tanzania has declared the end of the Marburg Virus Disease outbreak which was confirmed just over two months ago in the north-western Kagera region. It was the country’s first outbreak of the disease.
A total of nine cases (eight confirmed and one probable) and six deaths were recorded in the outbreak which was declared on 21 March after laboratory analysis confirmed that the cause of deaths and illnesses that were reported earlier in the region was Marburg.
The national health authorities with support from World Health Organization (WHO) and partner organizations immediately rolled out an outbreak response to stop the spread of the virus and save lives. The last confirmed case tested negative for the second test of Marburg on 19 April, setting off the 42-day mandatory countdown to declare the end of the outbreak.
Across the African region, WHO has been working with countries to reinforce readiness and response to health emergencies, with teams of first responders trained in the key aspects of outbreak preparedness, response and control. In Tanzania, teams of responders – one trained in March 2023 and another in 2022 as neighbouring Uganda battled an outbreak of Sudan Virus Disease – were instrumental in controlling the just-ended Marburg outbreak.
“With the investments being made to prepare for and tackle health emergencies in the region, we are responding even faster and more effectively to save lives, livelihoods and safeguard health,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
In support of the national efforts, the WHO office in Tanzania deployed outbreak response experts to reinforce surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control, contact tracing, treatment and community engagement. Additionally, with partners, WHO shipped nearly three tons of supplies of personal protective equipment and is also working with the Ministry of Health to support survivors of the disease.
“Thanks to these efforts, Tanzania has been able to end this outbreak and limit the potentially devastating impacts of a highly infectious disease,” Dr Moeti said.
Marburg is highly virulent and causes hemorrhagic fever, with a fatality ratio of up to 88%. It is in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola virus disease. Illness begins abruptly, with high fever, severe headache, and severe malaise. Many patients develop severe hemorrhagic symptoms within seven days.
The virus is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads among humans through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people, surfaces and materials. There are no vaccines or antiviral treatments approved to treat the virus. However, supportive care – rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids – and treatment of specific symptoms, improve survival.
In Africa, previous outbreaks and sporadic cases have been reported in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa and Uganda.

America has no moral authority to call ICC for Putin’s arrest

Writer of the article David Matsanga.

By Dr.David Matsanga in London

I have been against ICC interventions in the African situations because of the political witch-hunt that is used when selecting ICC the suspects . The Kenyan ICC cases taught me lots of things .Karim Khan might have turned into Paul from Saul but I will not change my stance on ICC .

My blood has no sense opportunism and iota of any parasitic nature so I have no regrets to make to anyone in the world about this amorphous ICC.A highest court of the Altar of International justice is being used to police political opponents of USA hegemony. This is sad.

The ICC instigated arrest warrant on the Russian President Vladimir Putin is the epitome of sanctimonious hypocrisy and subterfuge that reeks of impunity, in it’s substance this feeble bluff is a contravention of international law of Nations that I read at my campus some 35 years ago .

I call it a bluff because, beyond the senseless threats of arrest and sanctions, America knows going for Putin will be like showing up in a gun fight with sticks. It’s a delusional dream tucked in their mortal fantasies, a ship in the desert. Won’t happen, can’t happen, shall not happen.

America should stop taking the rest of the world for fools and nincompoops, they’ll be perturbed if they are mistaken to carry us as such. We know who America is and how they slither, like a deadly viper, on their bellies of double standards and selfish interest.

A few years ago, didn’t an American president, at the height of his pomposity, tell the world at one time, that if ever an American was taken before the ICC, they would flatten the town where the trial was held? In the words of their own, Abraham Lincoln; America can fool some people all the time, some people sometimes, but they cannot fool all the people all the time.

If ICC was an independent Court as they would want us to believe now, why can’t America confer to them the jurisprudence to try its troops for over 500,000 children innocently killed during their illegal and trivial war in Iraq? Or are they the more equal than others animals in George Orwell’s Animal Farm?

America, through its penchant and avarice, is not only the one country which excels in make-believe but excels chiefly in overt manipulation to making the rest of the world buy its charades. It is the one country which marauders around the world making enemies, only to return home and try to convince me and you that their enemy is our enemy.

America through its treachery has been able to hijack world’s strongest institutions like the UN, EU, AU and all their affiliates, to further their own selfish agendas. It is through the poisoning, interference and defilement of these institutions that some have ended up moribund and ineffective to deliver their mandate.

It is the one country which creates lies to wage unprovoked illegal wars against anyone who doesn’t buy their Americanism and convince me and you to defend them. “A Lie Is Halfway Round the World ,” says Mark Twain, “Before the Truth Has Got Its Boots On?” America should not be trusted.

America is, one country that will murder with wanton impunity, Millions of people whether military or civilian in their chauvinistic quest for world dominance while whilst they force it down the throats of many to believe it to be in the best interest of humanity. That is why it is still believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction whilst there was none!

America in its vanities dictates what we see and believe, it is so much “loved”(or better feared) that their atrocious foreign military campaigns are ignored and any country that dare points a finger at their atrocities is immediately identified as a threat to the USA and an enemy of the World.

Ironically, America is not accountable to the International Criminal Court (ICC) neither are its two bossom buddies in crime, whom I will choose not to mention, but your guess is as good as mine. In their unholy alliance, the trio can wage illegal wars and kill with impunity, yet gather the audacity to insist and enforce Arrest warrants and sanctions for those they decide to frame as criminals.

To date there are no calls to have both the George Bush, Tony Blair, Barrack Obama, Colin Powell Nicholas Sarkozy and Condoleeza Rice declared war criminals and a warrant of arrest floated on their heads to answer for crimes of war in the Hague.

But these are the same people calling for the immediate arrest of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, not because he a bigger sinner than themselves, but because he is America’s numero uno enemy.

Isn’t it said, that may those who come to seek justice do so with clean hands? As I conclude, I’d like fellow Africans to answer this question. Are American hands clean, even as they jostle for the arrest of Vladimir Putin?

I have stated I am neither a Communist nor a Capitalist I am at God’s mercy all the time because he chooses when take away or maintain you .

Over 200 youths equipped with business and hospitality skills

At least 200 youths have been trained and equipped with business and hospitality skills which will increase their chances of finding employment in the industry in order to improve their livelihoods.

The group was trained under Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL)’s Learning for Life program which is in partnership with Diageo Bar Academy, Light for the World, and Enterprise Uganda.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Managing Director of Uganda Breweries, Andrew Kilonzo noted that the level of unemployment in Uganda continues to be a great challenge among the youths and so many interventions such as these are necessary to equip youths with skills that will make them employable.

“Youth unemployment in Uganda currently stands between 64% and 70%. Every year about 400,000 young Ugandans come onto the job market to compete for approximately 52,000 available formal jobs each year. About 30% of the youths who are institutionally qualified in Uganda are unable to find jobs, this situation is worse for semiskilled and unskilled youths. So as UBL, we strive to equip youths with marketable skills to prepare them to transition into employment or business,” Kilonzo said.

At the ceremony, Geraldine Ssali, the Chief Guest commended Uganda Breweries together with its partners for the role they are playing in empowering youth around the communities of their operation. She also challenged the graduates to remain open-minded in order to learn as much as possible in their respective fields of specialty. In his remarks, he further noted that they need to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and seize every opportunity in order to expand their skill set.

“Stay curious, be open to new experiences, and never stop learning because graduation is not the end of your learning journey; it is only the beginning. The more you invest in your personal and professional development, the greater your potential for success. The hospitality industry is ever-evolving, and it requires individuals who are adaptable, innovative, and committed to continuous growth. Always be open to new experiences, and never stop learning,” said Ms Ssali
