The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association [FUBA] is seeking for sponsors to help raise US$100,000 to enable the nationl women’s team, the Gazelles, to participate in the Afrobasket Games in the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé from September 24 to October 3.
And, addressing a press conference FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya urged government and other stakeholders to intervene and help raise the money. He also said that FUBA would be fined US$3500 or banned for three years if the Gazelles failed to participate in the games. A team of twelve including Vicky Ntale, Flavia Okecho, Peace Proscovia, Judith Nansobya and Maureen Amoding, has been called for residential training.
Others are: Monica Siima, Rebecca Akullo, Martha Soigi and Muhayimana Namuwaya.
The Gazelles qualified for the Afrobasket and All Africa Games championships last year after winning gold at the Zone V tournament.
Meanwhile, the men’s team, the Silverbucks, has just returned from the Afrobasket tournament held in Tunisia.
