Over the past few years, the media in Uganda has been awash with stories of the Illuminati, a shady cult that some people in the country associate with acquiring riches.
Indeed, several of the moneybags and celebrities have been associated with this outfit, with the names Eddy Kenzo, Irene Ntale, Jose Chameleone featuring prominently on the list of those who have benefitted from the ‘organisation’.
Some time back another city celebrity was all over the newspapers, telling all and sundry how he had ‘gone undersea’ ostensibly to receive ‘blessings’ and returned a changed person.
There is need for the Ugandan society, mostly the media, to be on the look out for such misleading information and consequently denounce the purveyors.
In 2000, a certain Joseph Kibwetere together with a one Ms Credonia Mwerinde of the ‘Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God’ caused the deaths of hundreds of people in Kanungu, after convincing them that they were in consort with the Virgin Mary.
At the time no one bothered even when there were tell-tale signs that something was amiss; the group talked about an apocalypse, something that would have attracted the interest of security personnel. But alas this was never to happen; there was even one senior government official who reportedly ‘blessed’ the work of the shady organization!
So, as the story of the Illuminati grips our society, there is need to identify those associated with it and possibly ask them to shade some light on their ‘organisation’.
