The incoming speaker of the 10th Parliament Rebecca Kadaga earlier today freely mingled with various opposition and ruling party Members of Parliament as she prepared to be sworn in in front of the House.
The Kamuli Woman legislator was among the first batch of 72 MPs and took her oath just after 9am, in preparation for the new Parliament to officially open on Thursday with her election as Speaker for another five-year term.
Other prominent personalities that also took oath in the first batch include: seasoned politician and retired General Moses Ali who returns as East Moyo MP; former first son James Akena (UPC) Lira Municipality, Lucy Achiro Otim, an independent candidate who clinched the Aruu North Constituency seat; Hon. Evelyn Anite of Koboko Municipality and celebrated Ugandan gospel singer, Judith Babirye who swore in as Buikwe Woman MP.
However, there are 117 MPs whose election is being challenged in courts and some of these MPs will be sworn-in but subjected to a by-election in the event that they lose their seats.

Former Makerere University Guild President Anne Adeke Ebaju, who is also one of the youngest MPs in the 10th Parliament also took her oath of allegiance.

The swearing in is a three-day ceremony being presided over by the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige with at least 420 MPs out of the 458 to be sworn in. Today’s exercise has resumed at 1.30pm.
