These are heady days for Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
The musician cum social activist made his intentions to stand as Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East last week, an utterance that saw him delve deeper, go further, be more open than ever before.
To say it has resonated is a slight under-statement. Lauded by political critics – Bobi has been so close to US Ambassador Deborah Malac and attending the attention grabbing treason hearings of President Museveni’s four time challenger Dr Kizza Besigye.
As if that wasn’t enough, Bobi Wine worked with the US Embassy, the Henhouse Prowlers, Church of Ugnada / Nkozi Hospital and the Ugandan Youth Ministry to craft the University of ‘Overstanding’ at his Fire Entertainment offices in Kamwokya meant to teach ghetto youths knowledge and skills in activities like music, boxing, mechanics, crafts and art has already created employment opportunities for many youths.
Amid the whirlwind, the singer has sneaked out a new venture. He has partnered with TVS Motor Company to avail motorcycles to youths on loan since most of them lack the capital to make full payment.
He posted on his Facebook page:
“With the rampant unemployment and poverty especially among the ghetto youth,I decided to patner with TVS (Kalinnya nsozi) to make it easier by introducing a ‪#‎LoanScheme. You can now get a brand new TVS bodaboda by paying an upfront of just 1m and pay the balance in smaller bits as you use your bike. Pliz visit any of our outlets for more information. ‪#‎LwanyisaYalaNeTVS #‎BikwaseKyagulanyi
