Ruling National Resistance Movement party has finally elected its six representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly after chaotic scenes yesterday.
The elections had pitted the party’s electoral commission against contenders of the six slot over the rules of procedure but the voting was postponed to day February 8, 2017.
Despite the chaotic scenes yesterday, the party reached a position and elected its representative to the restive regional body.
And the winners are Mr Paul Musamali, an officer with the NRM Chief Whip’s office, who got the highest number of votes (157) while former Internal Affairs Minister, Rose Akol came second with 139 votes. George Odongo and Mathias Kasamba tied with 119 votes, former State Minister of Animal Husbandry Mary Mugyenyi got 115 votes, while former NRM youth chairman Dennis Namara came last with 114 votes.
Over 30 people contested for the six slots reserved for NRM while three slots are reserved for the opposition, making the total number of representatives nine, who are to represent Uganda to the Arusha based regional parliament.
