The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman for northern Uganda, Sam Engola has urged the Party supporters in Arua Municipality to prioritise the Party against an individual candidate in the ongoing by-election.
Engola made the remarks while meeting party supporters at Anyafio South cell and repeated the same message in another meeting at Republic Hotel in Nvara ward this Thursday afternoon.
He emphasised that under multiparty politics, the candidate’s party is considered stronger than an individual carrier of the flag.
He however added that the NRM voters had equally made a good choice in voting Nusura Tiperu in their primaries.
“Nusura Tiperu is here to carry our flag and as party leaders we are also here to remind you to vote NRM. It is all about NRM here and not individualism” he further preached to his attentive audience.
He was in company of the Deputy Secretary General, Richard Todwong and the candidate herself.
The ruling party is in efforts to maintain Arua Municipality Parliamentary seat.
NRM party has intensified its campaigns with improvised new strategies that will leave no single voter isolated.
As Engola addressed the meetings, another team of party mobilisers moved door to door preaching Party gospel.
Sources within NRM reveal that the party is planning to hold meetings in every Ward to address leaders who include LCI leaders, women councils, members of the NRM committees at both village and Ward, area councillors and LCII councils among other categories of leaders.
Party communications chief, Rogers Mulindwa says that the exercise is progressing well and it’s effective in delivering the campaign messages to the voters.
Yesterday the team covered two wards, ‘Kenya and Pangisha’ out of six that make up Arua Municipality. With addressing two more wards today, the party now remains with only two more wards which they plan to cover this Friday.
The forthcoming Arua Municipality by-election is scheduled August 15.
The seat fell vacant after the incumbent, Col Ibrahim Abiriga, was gunned down alongside his brother, Saidi Kongo, in Kawanda, Wakiso District, on June 8.
Besides several meetings, Mulindwa says that the candidate’s routine rallies are also going on, on a daily basis as follows:
Wednesday August 8th:
09:00 am: Leaders’ Meeting in Baazar Ward.
02:00 pm: Leaders’ meeting in Awindiri Ward
