The Confédération Africaine de Football club Licensing Regional Workshop has kicked off in Kampala, Uganda on Monday, 22 April 2019, to provide Member Associations (MA) with an update on the club licensing system at the continental level.
Divided into two groups, the first workshop will be held on 22-23 April 2019 and 25-26 April 2019, with each session having 13 MA’s each represented by two delegates in attendance.
The objectives of the workshops include receive a full update on the status of the club licensing system at National level and assist the MAs with near future planning, in order to have clubs ready before the deadline for engagement in the next CAF Inter Club competitions.
CAF Executive Member and Federation of Uganda Football Association President, Moses Magogo, in his opening remarks said: “We are very happy to host such a conference as Uganda and we thank CAF for honouring us the third time to host such events, from Beach Soccer, Young Referee Workshop and now Club Licensing which gives us more capacity as a Federation.
“Club Licensing is a tool that is going to push all of us on the continent and probably may drive the dream for Africa to win the FIFA World Cup in feature,” he added.
It will also serve as a platform for participants to share and exchange ideas on best practices, and also assist the MA’s with their specific needs.
On his part, Middleby Robert David from FIFA said “Club licensing is a major pattern of developing football worldwide. Africa has world class players but the clubs have to provide the best with all what is required to achieve the best performance. It’s a tool for developing football and I urge club managers and CEOs to attend to it. Federation members and clubs should use Club licensing to enhance football”.
One of the participants, Rogers Byamukama from Uganda said “At first Club Licensing seemed to be a punishment to the Clubs in Uganda and it was difficult to implement since 2012 when we started but we have managed to educate clubs and hosting this event will change the perspective of clubs in Uganda to know more about the five pillars of Club Licensing”.
“Our Club football will benefit from these new updates on how to catch up with CAF Club Licensing because it’s through club football that talents can be developed in a young footballing nation like south Sudan personally am ready to implement all we have learnt here,” said Joseph Deng Kou of South Sudan.
Representing Seychelles, Clive Delobie, remarked “Club Licensing is a major tool in club football and development in our countries we are here to share with CAF the challenges we have face and to have solutions that we shall implement back home in order to improve our football structures from federation to clubs”.
And from Somalia, Nur Hassan Ahmed said “Our football is developing because of CAF ability to develop structures for clubs and if we learn all these new updates of how clubs can develop using the club licensing manual, Somalia football will soon begin to shrive on the continent.”
