Uganda Premier League side Kirinya-Jinja S.S.S FC will be known as Busoga United Football Club beginning the 2019/2020 football season.
Their request to change the club name was approved by the FUFA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Edgar Watson among the key decisions that were taken during the 20th FUFA Executive Committee meeting on 25th May 2019 in Masaka at Brovad Hotel.
The meeting chaired by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and attended by all the Executive Members reviewed various matters including Kirinya’s request.
Their home ground remains the Mighty Arena, located within the Jinja Secondary School premises in Busoga region.
Changing of club names according to the region is a better improvement in the marketing strategy and a way of attracting local fans within the society unlike the traditional teams like KCCA FC, SC Villa, Express FC and the big ones like Vipers SC.
From local residents in the society, students, government workers, corporate executives to the Kyabazinga of Busoga, everyone will become part of the football story on match day.
Last season, Kirinya-Jinja SS finished 9th on the 16-table log in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with 41 points from the 30 games.
Tooro United FC which was formerly known as Soana FC was the previous Uganda Premier League club to change its name with its home ground in Fort Portal.
