Uganda has announced that it has recorded 21 new #Covid-19 cases from long distance truck drivers.
The new 21 cases bring the total number of #Covid-19 to 160. East Africa region has registered 1,661 registered cases with 551 recoveries and 44 death while global statistics stand at 4,229, 122 registered cases, 1,479, 509 have recovered with 289, 350 death.
“Today, May 14, 2020, 21 new #COVID-19 cases confirmed from 1,593 samples of truck drivers. This brings the total number of #COVID-19 cases to 160 in Uganda. The new cases include five Ugandans, eight Kenyans, seven Tanzanians and one South Sudanese who arrived via Mutukula, Busia and Elegu borders.”
The Ministry of Health further said all 303 community samples have tested negative for COVID-19. Total samples tested today: 1,896
63 Ugandans and some foreign truck drivers have been discharged after successfully undergoing treatment.
Cases of Coronavirus were first reported in December last year in the Chinese city of Wuhan where it originated before hitting other parts of the world.
