Police have raided Friends Bar in Nakasero, Central Division Kampala and arrested 15 people who were drinking alcohol during day time without observing social distancing.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the operation was carried out today at midday. Others fled the scene.
They are detained at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala on charges of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease.
Over the weekend, police arrested 22 revellers accused of flouting anti-coronavirus guidelines of drinking in bars. The suspects were picked up from La Venti Lounge and Kitchen in Najjera, a Kampala suburb at around 11 pm on Sunday evening.
The 22 were arrested after live videos of them emerged on social media. According to the video, the revelers were sipping beer, dancing in the bar.
The suspects were yesterday charged with negligent act likely to cause an infection of disease. Section 172 of the penal code act provides that “Any person who unlawfully or negligently does any act which is and which he or she knows or has reason to believe to be likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.”
